Resetting your Nextel Phone

  • Power Cycle: Turn the phone off for at least 60 seconds. This is good to do weekly and enables system improvements to be reloaded fresh into the phone.
  • Hard Reset: Take the battery out of the phone and wait 30 seconds to put it back in. This is excellent to do when your phone is acting strangely. Just like a computer, you are resetting it by rebooting it—only taking a battery out of a phone reboots it!
  • Master Reset: Doing a Master Reset is a very safe last resort and should be done in an area where you have 1-2 signal bars. A Master Reset is also a normal procedure used to reboot the phone after certain service changes. The following steps are for iXXX Nextel units (like the i580):
  1. Press the Menu button
  2. Scroll to Settings and press OK
  3. Scroll to Advanced and press OK
  4. Scroll to Connectivity and press OK
  5. Scroll to Master Reset and press OK
  6. Enter "000000" (six zeroes) for the Security Code and press OK
  7. Press Yes
  8. Press OK (not Cancel)
  9. The phone will turn itself off
  10. Wait 60 seconds to turn the phone back on
